After nearly a year of planning and preparation, filming of the full-length documentary Lake Forest, Illinois: Past, Present & Future began on April 14, 2007. A number of long-time Lake Forest residents, community leaders and historians were interviewed and photographed over the course of several hours in Lake Forest.

On-location filming in Lake Forest will continue throughout 2007 and 2008, including the traditional Tree Lighting Ceremony in Market Square on November 26, 2007.
Lake Forest is a truly remarkable community, renowned for its picturesque charms and distinctive character: for the breathtaking beauty of its parks, ravines and lake bluffs, the elegance of its architecture, its vibrant academic and civic institutions, and its rich traditions, values and history.

Until now, its story has never been told on film.

Recently, a group of Lake Forest residents came together to discuss how to bring this important story to life on screen.

To accomplish this goal, they formed the Lake Forest Historical Documentary Committee and announced that production had begun this Spring on a full-length documentary entitled
Lake Forest, Illinois: Past, Present & Future.

This film will be the first full-length documentary on Lake Forest ever produced. It will explore all that is Lake Forest today, and will honor the men and women who created our community 150 years ago, as well as illuminate the events that enabled Lake Forest to become universally regarded as a Great American Community.

The making of this broadcast-quality documentary is a celebration of Lake Forest, a year-long community event we urge you to take part in. Share with us your Lake Forest stories. If you have vintage photographs or old home movies, we'd love to see them and possibly include them in the final film. Or if you see us filming around town, just stop by and say hello.

Filming will take place throughout the year and will document numerous important and fun-filled community events, including the traditional Tree Lighting Ceremony in Market Square in November 2007. The film's premiere will be in Lake Forest at the Gorton Center in the Fall of 2008, coinciding with the release of the documentary DVD.

Please visit this web site often for updates on the documentary, including opportunities for elementary and high school students to submit artwork for inclusion on the film's DVD front and back covers, as well as essay and photograph contests.

Join us in this exciting adventure as we celebrate Lake Forest.
